I've been giving great advice by one of my favorite photographers.
Sign up anywhere that let's you place your link for free. Advertise on places like craigslist, show on there that you are JSO and will do it for free to start building your portfolio. Word of mouth is one of the best things. I don't know if you have seen the MOO MOO cards. You can start getting some done and give them out to friends and family so they can give them to anyone they know. You have your niece and Beck you can practice on and can show your style. Good Luck.
